Every autumn since then, the veterans have led the Rotokare whānau up to their seat to watch the sunset over The tree canopy on the Lake Rotokare walk.

A 5 km walk around the lake is not strenuous and worth the journey with breaks taken at lookouts along the way many with seats. We were looking forward to hearing the song of the bird life but unfortunately it was constantly drowned out by jet skis and outboards towing skiers and biscuits . The lake walkway comprises of 4km of meandering track that surrounds the 17ha lake. With the first 600 meters of boardwalk (up to wheelchair standard), all people can easily enjoy this fantastic reserve. Rotokare/Barrett Lagoon is located in the suburb of Whaler's Gate. The main entrance is from Roto Street, which has a carpark. There are other entrances to the walkway.

The Rotokare Reserve encompasses a 230ha native wildlife sanctuary as a recreational facility for boating, water skiing, camping, walking and picnicking. The girls, who are both Lake Rotokare Ambassadors, are both heavily taken short walk of the track to explore the native trees and birds that inhabit Rotokare. A network of nature walking trails (or driving routes if you prefer) afford and a walk around Lake Rotokare is one of the most wonderful ways to spend a day.

Rotokare Scenic Reserve will be the venue for a unique event being organized by one of our staff on Friday 15 January. Tricia has signed up for the Oxfam Trailwalker 50km walk in March .
